I got this from Taliska today - I've posted it and my reply (hope no one objects since its not really 'personal') what do you folks think??

 

Hi NikpV,

 

It occurred to me yesterday whilst trying to diagnose the latest fault on my Galaxy, that we could do with another index to the FAQs that covers the common symptoms. At the moment, you have to know what the source of the problem is to see the excellent FAQs available.

 

For example:

 

Clunking from front suspension when going over bumps -> droplinks

Noisy engine when idling with squeals from powersteering -> alternator pulley

Remote no longer opening doors -> remote key unit

 

 

Some of them will have a list of potential causes, I guess the most common could be listed first. How about this one:

 

Air conditioning / climate control not working:

1. Condensor failed

2. Compressor failed

3. Evaporator failed

4. Broken / fractured pipes

(you could make this list a mile long I suspect) BTW this list is ficticious!

 

This site is a just such a brilliant reference for people to figure out and fix their broken Galaxys... it might just help to make it a bit more accessible.

 

I don't have enough experience to know what all the symtoms are, but I have to say that my knowledge is growing daily as a result of failures! :-)

I think this is a great idea - I would be quite happy to implement(subject to time available-probably need to be built over time) it perhaps as another sticky at the top of technical - to be really ambitious it should also link to the relevant (if apropriate) article(s) in the faq. The only problem is that I am not a technical wizard and while I have a few ideas e.g

 

Smoke: Excessive smoking in the cold

Noise : Noise like jet engine -> Aux heater

Noise : Clunking noise from front sp over speed bumps -> anti roll bars

Noise : sharp banging noise when pulling away -> gearbox/engine retaining bolt

Heating: Taking a long time to warm up in Winter

 

we could arrange it alphabetically by the word before the : ,obviously its a mamoth task and would rely on everybody contributing as with the current faq

 

What do you think?

but does it really need to be as difficult as you think nik?could we not just go through the faqs and re title things,so for example all air conditioning problems are all lumped together,im just trying to think of an easy way that we(OR YOU ;) :wacko: )can do this??????

 

the trouble is there is so much info given by various peeps over the years to various topics that the info is wide spread over the whole thread,unless we all want to go through every single bit of info its going to be a big task,im willing to help where i can with a bit of guidance.

but its at the end of the thread,i think who ever spots a gem like this needs to move it somewhere,where we think it can go under a main title,or something like this gets lost within the forum.
